Proud founding member,
Singing is an excellent way to communicate with your baby. Babies, as young as four months, can sign signs that are recognizeable to his/her caregiver. These will be basic but intentional hand/arm motions. At 6-8 months, the baby can learn to to sign in a way that anyone can understand. By a year, they can have a hundred or so signs. Here is the research, it's amazing.
There are two aspects of language, the physical pronounciation "bo-oh-k", and the consept that the object (and those like it) are identified as a group. Pronounciation will come when the vocal cords fully develop. Signing allows parents and caregivers to communicate with their children long before they "speak" their first words.
More information about the benifits to babies, toddlers and parents can be foud here .
Etal, the talented and energetic founder of Signshine teaches classes and private lessons. Parents and Nannys bring their children to these funn mommy-and-me classes. Her classes are wonderful and both adult and child walk (or are carried) away with a good time and strong grasp of the signs taught in class that day.
SignShine teaches ASL (American Sign Language.
