Proud founding member,
Having an un-medicated, natural birth was extremely important to my husband and I, so we really really did the research to stack the odds in our favor. We had a wonderful birth experience and our daughter entered this world 100% drug free and healthy with Chelsea by our side. In the months leading up to our due date she was available to us to answer questions and concerns, and even did additional research for me when I wanted more empirical data on the routine use of pitocin post birth. Her energy was always positive and her bits of insight from her experience were tremendously helpful. She supported all of our decisions and made us feel empowered every step of the way. The day of our birth she was invaluable, and interacted with our medical team and with us seamlessly. We can't express strongly enough how grateful we are for her support and happy we were that we hired her. Even though we know what to expect next time, we're definitely going to hire Chelsea again for baby #2 in the future. (Posted on Yelp: February, 2011 )
Chelsea made our dreams of a beautiful natural birth come true. I couldn't have done it without her. She is no doubt the BEST doula you will find in LA (if not the world!)
I am a first time mother and came into the pregnancy practically clueless. Chelsea met with me every other week for a few hours (for months), which really helped me to mentally and emotionally prepare for my daughter's birth. Chelsea is so sweet and friendly and talked to me like we've always been friends. Every time we met we would casually talk about any questions or concerns I might have over a cup of her wonderful chai tea.
I had a long and intense labor, which lasted nearly 48 hours, and Chelsea was with me every step of the way. She came to my house and taught my husband massage techniques, which were a lifesaver during active labor. She guided me through lunges and squats to help bring the baby down and even made me soup when I was drained of energy.
After 30 hours in early labor I nearly gave up and desperately asked my midwife for drugs. But then, Chelsea came to the rescue with lavender sacks, honey sticks, power bars, and massage tools. She is the most prepared and loving doula anyone could ask for. You know that she loves her job and that she really cares. Thanks to Chelsea (and of course my husband) my birthing experience was spiritual, intimate, and absolutely perfect. Anyone would be lucky to have Chelsea as her doula. If you're on the Westside and are looking for a Doula, I highly recommend Chelsea! We were first time parents trying to wade through the sea of chaos that is child birth. Amid all the different opinions and options, Chelsea helped to steer us through the madness to understand what our choices were and how to make the child birthing experience the best one possible. She's supportive, knowledgeable, and not to mention a mom herself. Going through this whole thing, the father really benefits from the support of a Doula in understanding what your wife is going through and how to best support her. I can't say enough how much we appreciated all of Chelsea's help through this exciting time. (Posted on Yelp: August, 2010 )
Chelsea was amazing. My husband and I are so glad she was with us during the birth of our 2nd child. I was attempting a VBAC, and really wanted to have a doula this time to make sure everything went smoothly, and that I could try everything possible to avoid another c/s. Chelsea provided guidance to myself, and my husband, helping us both to evaluate where we were at with the labor (it was another marathon labor!) and what decisions we should make. She helped me through contractions, helped me through the pushing, and also prevented some "routine" hospital procedures from being performed. I wasn't fully aware what was going on the instant my baby was born, and my husband must have been caught up in the moment too, but Chelsea was so keen and she knew our birth plan so well, she spoke up gently, and then firmly to the nurses/docs at key moments (i.e. waiting to cut the cord for 2 min.) Besides that, she was great company for my husband and I for such a long labor, and good times were had by all. (Posted on Yelp: December, 2009 )
To the ancient Greeks, a "doula" might have meant a slave woman, and with the advent of ancient Yelp, the process of finding the ideal "doula" became more efficient saving thousands of middle-class Greeks valuable time and drachma.
Today, slavery is largely frowned upon even, perhaps, in parts of West Los Angeles. The owner of Westside Doula, Chelsea, is the best doula in the Western Hemisphere, even by ancient Greek standards. She is professionally dependable - always prompt and prepared for our meetings - receiving a 10 for 10 on reliability, wealth of knowledge., and entertainment value. How many laboring women can say they laughed through their contractions? I think not so many.
In addition to providing support for me, the laborer, Chelsea also coached the spouse through important pain-alleviating techniques, took pictures, filmed, brought ice, empathized, and all-in-all created a wonderful birthing experience that is worth all the drachma in Athens. I had the most amazing doula!!! After having an unpleasant experience with the birth of our first child Gordon, we wanted to have the best experience this time for the birth of our daughter Charlie. We decided to have Chelsea as our doula and are so glad we made this decision! Chelsea was an important part of our pregnancy, labor and birth.
She's such a caring, loving and fun person who is incredibly skilled in what she's doing. She is absolutely committed to her job and passionate about it. She gave us amazing informations about pregnancy, labor, birth, early motherhood and beyond! We're so happy with our choice and recommend her highly to every mom/parent to be. She's pretty affordable compared to many other doulas. She has an amazing website. Here's the link: http://www.westsidedoula.com/ (posted on Peacheads 2009)
Thank you so much for being there!!! We are so grateful and happy that you were here for Lalibela! Long, tiring but a blessing! Matthew and I can't begin to describe how awesome you are and how priceless you were in the birthing process! (posted on Facebook 2009)

Mary: I truly feel that having Chelsea as our doula helped us have the beautiful, intense, and natural birth that we were hoping for. From the beginning, Chelsea provided us with support and resources that kept us calm, positive, and focused during pregnancy and delivery. One of the many great things about Chelsea is that she helped us make our own decisions, and she let us know she was there for us no matter what choices we made about pregnancy and our birth. She kept us focused on creating our own birth experience, and gave us confidence that we could have the birth that we wanted. During our birthing time, Chelsea was an affirming and knowledgeable presence in the room, while still allowing my husband and I to share the experience together. We are so glad that she was a part of this special time in our lives.
Scott: Watching my son come into this world was the single most powerful event I have ever experienced. Though my wife was an absolute rockstar throughout her entire birthing time, Chelsea's presence and support were a huge comfort to this soon-to-be new father who hadn't a clue what to expect from childbirth. No class or book could have prepared me for the reality of the experience, but Chelsea not only supported my wife during her birthing time--she supported me, AND showed me how to better support my wife at every stage of labor. Her experience and expertise allowed me to focus on my wife and truly share the experience with her. I didn't have to waste time trying to figure out what to do next; Chelsea was always there with a suggestion for a different position or an extra hand to support my wife. This allowed me to really stay present in the moment, which enriched our experience all the more. (Posted on DoulaMatch.net : March 2010)
